For the first time in 44 years the Finke Desert Race will not be going ahead. The first week of June is usually one of the busiest weekends of the year for Alice Springs with thousands flocking to watch or partake in what is often referred to as the toughest off-road race in Australia.
Due to the bio-security zone restrictions, the Finke Desert Race Committee is also discouraging anyone from camping or racing the track this weekend.
